'Trade Justice' Betrays the Poor and the Sick
In the build up to the G8 summit here in the United Kingdom in early July, it's becoming increasingly difficult to switch on the TV or radio without hearing some activist or rock star demanding 'trade justice' for the world's poor.

A Poem from an Iraqi blogger
I wrote this piece on the 2nd anniversary the toppling of Saddam two days ago but I didn't have the time to post it. It was not meant to be a poem, as I can't write even poetry in Arabic. But it didn't seem to me it can be posted like a regular article. So I'll just put it this way and hope you'll like it and that it'll give you an idea of how some Iraqis look at the 9th of April, as although there are some personal stuff that can be found in my piece but most of my thoughts and feelings are similar to what I find in the hearts and minds of many fellow Iraqis.

Author of the Week, Robert Guest
Robert Guest, winner of the 2004 Bastiat Prize for Journalism given by the International Policy Network, is the Africa Editor for the Economist and the author of The Shackled Continent, a look into the reasons behind the incessant poverty that is rampant in Africa. In his writings on Africa, Guest explains that Africa is poor because its corrupt governments restrain citizens’ ability to better themselves.  The Shackled Continent provides the reader with a first-hand account of the difficulties faced by everyday Africans, based on Guest’s experiences there.  It explains how Africa’s problems are largely the result of decades of bad government, and the misery citizens live through is caused by tyrannical leaders and an international community that provides these dictators with foreign aid.  Prior to his work at the Economist, Guest worked as a correspondent for the Daily Telegraph, based out of Tokyo, and as a freelance writer in South Korea.
